Chocolate Lava Cakes

Chocolate Lava Cakes
15 Min

Sinfully rich, easy yet fancy, our chocoholic's dream recipe for Chocolate Lava Cakes is modeled after the ones we might find on a restaurant menu. These are packed with an eruption of warm, flowing, decadent chocolate from the inside out.

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/4 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Coat 6 ramekins or custard cups with cooking spray and place on a baking sheet.
  2. In a microwaveable bowl, melt chocolate chips and butter in microwave 1 minute. Continue to melt at 15-second intervals until chocolate is smooth.
  3. Add flour and sugar to chocolate mixture; mix well. Stir in eggs and yolks until smooth, then stir in vanilla. Spoon batter evenly into ramekins.
  4.  Bake 12 to 14 minutes; remove from oven and let sit 5 minutes. Edges should be firm and center will be soft. Loosen around edges with a knife and remove to dessert plates. Serve immediately.

  • If you don't have ramekins or custard cups, you can use a cupcake tin; adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Top with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream and your favorite fruit.
  • Another restaurant-style dessert we hight recommend is our Easy Baked Alaska!

To use cupcake pans instead of ramekins, it says "adjust cooking time accordingly", unfortunately, I have no clue how to do this. Please?

Hi there! The oven temperature will remain the same, but you will want to start checking your cupcakes for doneness at around 8 minutes. They should be firm on the outside and soft in the center. Enjoy!

I love this lava cake. Very hard to stir at one point but that will not prevent me from making this again!

Salted or unsalted butter?

We used salted butter for this recipe.

Awesome is the only word I can describe!!!! So easy to make and OH SO GOOD!!!!

Oh I bet it's gonna be GREAT!

I made these with dark chocolate chips , delicious & yummy

Would you consider lilsting the neutritional value on your recipes? It is so helpful for those watching health problems to know just how 'safe' it is to use a particular recipe.

This is just like the dessert we had at the conclusion of our Valentine's Day dinner last week. Fantastic!!!

I made these recently exactly as the recipe directed. They turned out perfectly! I think I'll do the 12 minute timing though. I served them with Cool Whip and ice cream. Delicious!!

I was wondering if it was the same as the warm chocolate melting cake

I will make them soon

this was sooo good will make it again!!

denaw53: We use standard ramekins for our Chocolate Lava Cakes, which are 4 ounces or a half-cup. Thanks for baking with us!

What size ramekin cups is everyone using?

This recipe is Wonderful. I made it exactly as the recipe called for and it turned out exactly as I expected. I was very pleased, as was everyone I served this dish to. It tastes like you worked very hard, when indeed it is extreemly simple and elegant. I'll use this anytime I want to impress my guests. Thank You Mr. Food!

This is a great recipe. I did not have ramekin or custard cups so I did use the cupcake tin. Should have cut down on cooking time as the lava wasnt lava....but it was still good. I did go out and purchase ramekin cups. I am excited to try them again.

this was the best I've ever had! and so ez!

omg it is sooooooooooooooo awesome
