Congratulations to reader Kim P., the winner of our very first No-Name Recipe Contest! These delicious slice 'n' bake cookies are now called Icebox Walnut Cookies, all thanks to Kim, because that's what her grandma used to call 'em.

What You'll Need:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
What To Do:
  1. In a large bowl, cream sugar, butter, egg, and vanilla. Add flour and baking soda; mix well. Stir in walnuts.

  2. Divide dough in half and form into two rolls. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. and coat baking sheets with cooking spray.

  4. Slice cookie dough into 1/8-inch-thick slices and place on prepared baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are golden.
Note

How about making this cookie recipe your own? Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice or zest to the batter for a fresh lemon flavor, or add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, if that's what you like.

Black Walnut Refrigerator Cookies Ingredients: 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 cup chopped Black walnuts The Whole wheat flour gives a darker look to the cookies, Is better for you, and the Black Walnuts give the cookies a whole different wonderful taste - no bitterness as from English walnuts.

I made these cookies and served them to my family and guests. they went real fast. I added chocolate chips to half the dough. The first cookie name I thought was has already been taken "ooh so good" cookies. So I went back and looked at the recipe again and noticed the note from Mr Food then it gave me an idea. Why not call the cookie "Make It Your Own." After all that is what Mr Food suggested in the notes to add your preference to give the cookies your own special taste.

With all the brown sugar in the cookie, I think the name should be Brown Sugar Refrigerator Cookies.

I would call these "Easy Brown Sugar Cookies". They look so easy to make and just a few simple ingredients.

My mother used to make these for us when we were little. We loved them, and if you had the walnuts, everything else was a staple. We always called them "Butterscotch Cookies" because of all the brown sugar. Luscious! autumnlady59
