Hawaiian Pudding Pie

- CHILL TIME
- 4 Hr
Whisk your taste buds away to a tropical paradise with a slice of Hawaiian Pudding Pie. Every mouthful of this no-bake pie will leave you with feelings of warm and sunshiny days.
What You'll Need
- 1 large (6-serving) package vanilla instant pudding and pie filling
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed (one 8-ounce container equals 3-1/2 cups)
- 1 prepared (9-inch) graham cracker pie crust
- 1/2 cup toasted flaked coconut (optional)
What to Do
- In a large bowl, prepare pudding according to package directions, using the 2 cups milk. Fold in butter and whipped topping then pour mixture into pie crust.
- Refrigerate 4 hours, or until firm.
- Top with toasted coconut just before serving, if desired.
Notes
-
If you have only 4-serving packages of vanilla pudding on hand then open 2 of them and measure out and use 2/3 cup pudding mix.
-
Every time you make this it can be a different kind of pie. Try lining bottom of pie crust with banana slices, berries, peaches, or canned fruit before adding the filling.
- If you'd like to make your own toasted coconut, spread out the flaked coconut on a baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees F. until golden, mixing occasionally.

Love these easy pudding mix type pies, especially this one. I use sugar free pudding, an almond flour crust, unsweetened coconut, and whipped heavy cream with a little liquid sweetener for the diabetic members of the family, but even the ones who think they don't like no sugar added recipes like these. Thanks to the Mr. Food Test Kitchen for such good recipes!

Light and refreshing. I like the addition of drained , crushed pineapple to make it even more "Hawaiian".

What a pity you have to use pre-packaged instant pudding for this, which we don't have here in Spain. Anyone have the original, from scratch recipe?

Hi there! You can make our recipe for Classic Vanilla Pudding to use in place of the instant vanilla pudding. Just make sure to chill the pudding first before folding in the butter and whipped topping. Enjoy!

Wherever I see whipped topping I substitute Marscapone instead. Marscapone tastes fantastic.

YOU COULD ADD COCONUT MILK AND CRUSHED PINEAPPLE TO MAKE THIS MORE HAWAIIAN

this sounds like a plain vanilla pudding pie. Wouldn't it be better if we added some tropical fruit pieces into the vanilla pudding before it hits the pie crust? Just decrease the milk a bit to allow for some fruit juice. Then put it in the crust and top with coconut! Just think Pina Coloda and you'll know which fruits to use.

Exactly,,, I've always added crushed pineapple. I don't get the idea of the melted butter either??????

Coconut in a package of vanilla instant pudding does not make much of a special "Hawai'ian" anything. If it is Hawai'ian, it should have pineapple, mango, papaya, coconut, macadamia nut, or some such tropical island goodies. Pudding & coconut just noe not cut it.

Try using instant coconut pudding or a little coconut extract in pudding..really enhances it! Additional crushed pineapple and slices of bananas make it what it's called - Hawaiian Pie.

Because I have type 2 diabetes, I used sugar free pudding and sugar free cool whip. It was just as delicious and now is something I am allowed to have....

to answer moonbeam .. if you add crushed pineapple with juice instead of the milk, you're making Dad's pineapple pie found on cooks.com. It's very good and there are other recipes there that you can add cool whip and not bake. hope that helps

I spread drained, crushed pineapple onto the pie crust and then poured the pudding mixture on top. Then sprinkled chopped macadamia nuts and coconut on top. YUMMY!

How do you think this pie would work using crushed pineapple with the juice instead of the milk?

Like RobnEllie said, replace the milk with the juice of the pineapple.. There are many pudding recipes that say "Mix a box of pudding with a can of Pineapple with the juice plus a tub of Cool Whip and other stuff" and you have a VERY YUMMY DESERT...

I USE THIS BASIC IDEA, FOR MANY OF MY CREAM, NO-BAKE PIES. USING BANANA PUDDING AND ADDING SLICE BANANA'S TO IT IS DELICIOUS TOO. ITS LIKE THE OLD RECIPE FOR, DREAM PIES.

This easily prepared no bake pie is a keeper! I used aerosol whipped cream and followed the recipe otherwise---my 11 yr old grandson and husband loved it.
