Budget Crab Spread

You don't have to worry about the high price of crabmeat 'cause we've got the solution here! By mixing up imitation crabmeat and baking it in here, we bet nobody'll even know the difference.

What You'll Need

2 (8 ounce each) packages cream cheese, softened
1/2 pound imitation crabmeat, flaked
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon dried dill

What to Do

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well.
Spoon into a 9-inch pie plate and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Serve immediately.

Notes

Serve with crackers or homemade pita chips. For homemade pita chips, just cut large pitas into eight wedges, separate the halves, and bake in a preheated 350 degrees F. oven on a baking sheet until crisp and golden.

I also use this recipe to stuff my mushrooms. I add chopped mushroom stems, garlic and butter to stuff the mushroom caps.

I've been using imitation crab for many years. I prefer it most when I make stuffed mushrooms. Everyone loves my stuffed mushrooms and always wants the recipe. The only time I use real crab is when I'm cooking real crab legs.

I sort of have to agree with rhmaustin. I live in south louisiana, and there is an absolute taste difference in real crab meat and imitation. Note now, that I am not saying the Budget Crab Spread is not good. I am sue it is tasty, but I know our crabmeat can be differentiated from imitations stuff. Just saying.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Saying people will be fooled into thinking fake crab meat is the real thing is like saying people won't be able to tell the difference between margarine and real butter. An experienced palate can always taste the difference.

I agree. I can always tell when it's real or imitation. If your going to make a special dish ,then make it special by using the real thing. Also, Imitation crab makes me ill, and it could possibly make a guest ill, So, give that a thought. I refuse to make anything fake.
