Southern Fried Shrimp

Our down-home batter-dipped Southern Fried Shrimp will take your taste buds to the deep south! Serve it up with some creamy tartar sauce and crunchy fries and what a meal!
What You'll Need
- 1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 pound large peeled and deveined raw shrimp
What to Do

In a soup pot, heat oil over medium heat until hot.

Meanwhile, in a shallow bowl combine all the ingredients except the shrimp, mix well until smooth.
- Dip the shrimp into the batter coating evenly, then drop into hot oil. Fry 2 to 4 minutes or until golden brown, turning once.

I upped the flour & cornmeal to 1 cup and added 1/2 cup beer - SOO good! I coat the shrimp in plain flour then, dip in egg and milk mixture, then dredge in flour, cornmeal and seasonings . . . SOOO good!

Had a little trouble coating the shrimp evenly. I substituted garlic powder for red pepper. Served it with shoe string french fries and it all tasted like fish and chips from England. According to my husbands memory from his years there. perfect together.
