What You'll Need

  • 1 (16-ounce) package dried split peas
  • 1 pound cooked ham, diced
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 4 carrots, diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf

What to Do

  1. Place all ingredients in a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on HIGH setting 6 hours or on LOW setting 10 hours, or until peas are tender and soup is thick. Remove and discard bay leaf. Serve immediately.
