Here's a crunchy sesame cookie in the true Italian tradition - great for anytime munching and dunking.

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup sesame seeds

What to Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. In a large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, blend the sugar, shortening, and eggs until smooth. Add the flour, milk, honey, vanilla, lemon peel, and salt; stir until smooth then set aside.

  2. Place the sesame seeds in a shallow bowl. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into the sesame seeds and roll to coat. Shape into oblong cookies, each about 1" x 2", and place on baking sheets that have been coated with nonstick cooking spray.

  3. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Makes about 60 cookies.
