COOK TIME

Classic Creamed Spinach is like mashed potatoes or mac 'n' cheese -- a comfort food you love for your whole life. This recipe is an easier version of this favorite classic side dish.

What You'll Need

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 (10-ounce) packages frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well drained (see Note)
  • 1 cup (1/2 pint) heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat; stir in flour until mixture is combined and golden.

  2. Add remaining ingredients; mix well and cook 3 to 5 minutes, or until heated through.

Notes

Two 10-ounce packages of fresh spinach can also be used; just chop it and boil until tender, then drain well and proceed as directed.

This is one I wrote down and used and I was very happy with the results. It's your basic creamed spinach and leaves plenty of room for additions like herbs, cheese, mushrooms, even the ever present bacon and/or ranch seasoning.

I just printed this recipe and had no problem. Iplan on making it tonite for supper. i love spinach and something new sounds good. GmaSue

i just printed the recipe with no problems

Instead of printing them out I usually copy & paste into AbiWord or a similar program. I have them in a separate folder called "Recipes", you can always print them out from there.

I've done the same thing. It's so convenient.

Someone mentioned they can't print the receipes. Just below the name of the receipe there is several boxes one says print, click on it.

I also substituted the nutmeg and used garlic and onion instead. I also used one small jalapeno pepper for a little zest. My family loves it. OOOOOOOOOOOH IT'S SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

click on the title of the recipe to view and save, only difference between the classic and autumn is garlic?????????

Why aren't these recipes printable anymore? Now all I'm getting is the Mr. Food Recipe Collection, the name of the recipe, then a blank page until the "OOH IT'S SO GOOD!!" What's happening?

What can I use in place of the heavy cream? Plain or vanilla yogurt?

If you want to decrease the fat in the recipe try half and half. They even make a fat free "half and half" that work well in most recipes.
