American Berry Trifle

Four simple ingredients are all you'll need for this show-stopping patriotic dessert. Perfect for the 4th of July, our American Berry Trifle is so easy to make and it's big enough to feed a crowd!
What You'll Need
- 1 (16-ounce) pound cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 quart strawberries, sliced, with 1 cup reserved
- 1 pint blueberries, with 1/2 cup reserved
- 1 (16-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
What to Do
- In a trifle bowl or large glass serving bowl, layer half the pound cake, strawberries, blueberries, and whipped topping. Repeat layers once more then garnish with reserved berries in a flag pattern, as shown.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Looks yummy but to jazz it up a bit I think I will try it with blueberry and strawberry pie filling on the inside and use the actual berries just on top.

I used angel food cake so that the cake would be fat free and less calories. It's so much fun to make it with the kids. They really loved serving it.

I do the same thing--I usually cut the angel food cake in thirds horizontally and fill the 2 layers with cool whip, strawberries & blueberries which takes 5 minutes to put together. On top I put 4-5 spoonfulfuls of cool whip separately placed all around the top decorated with strawberry and a few bluberries on each spoonful of cool whip. Throw a few berries around the bottom of cake dish also--Makes a great presentation for the 4th of July. Great for a perpetual dieter like myself who loves dessert
