Did you know? Sweetened condensed milk is always sweetened, as the name implies. It's sometimes sold as "condensed milk," and the two are one and the same. The great thing about sweetened condensed milk is that it has a long shelf life, so you can purchase it when it's on sale and have it on hand whenever you need to make a quick and easy dessert. Once it's opened, it should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it will last about 2 to 3 weeks.

Ever wonder why it's called condensed milk? It's because sugar, and milk are combined and then boiled until there's a half 'n' half sugar-milk ratio. That's why its shelf life is so long - it's cause of that added sugar and evaporation process!
